Data about you is, in a very real sense, part of you. It reflects what you read, where you go, what you say, and who you talk to. When that data feeds AI systems, it shapes tools that may later make decisions about you or people like you.
So it is fair to ask: do you get a say?
Too often the answer is a long agreement nobody reads, or a setting buried several menus deep. That is not a meaningful choice.
A better approach is simple to describe, even if it takes effort to build. Tell people plainly what is collected. Ask before using it for something new. Make it easy to say no, and easy to change your mind later.
None of this stops innovation. It just makes sure the people whose data powers AI remain participants, not raw inputs. Your data, your say.
